Ciad - I tre amici

C’erano una volta tre amici che decisero di fare un viaggio da un villaggio all’altro del Ciad. Si trattava di un cane, del montone e della capra. I tre avevano stabilito di fare l’intero percorso a piedi ma, visto che la distanza da percorrere era tanta, il cane suggerì di fermare il "taxi della foresta" per continuare il viaggio più comodamente. Gli altri due, ormai stanchi, accettarono con piacere. Ad un tratto sulla strada apparve un taxi e i tre viaggiatori si sbracciarono per farlo fermare. L’autista gli domandò dove fossero diretti e gli concesse il passaggio pagando 250 franchi cefa per ciascuno. Il montone pagò senza protestare, il cane che aveva una banconota da 500 franchi gliela diede in attesa del resto. La capra da parte sua fece capire all’autista che non aveva con sé il denaro, ma una volta arrivata gli avrebbe dato i soldi richiesti. L’autista che era un brav’uomo, si fidò delle parole della capra e accettò la proposta. Quando finalmente il camion giunse al villaggio dove i tre erano diretti, la capra scese per prima e sparì fuggendo più veloce che poteva. Il montone si allontanò tranquillamente. Il cane si accostò all’autista per reclamare il resto ma questi glielo negò: "La capra tua amica non ha pagato ed è fuggita non rispettando la sua promessa, sono costretto quindi a trattenere il tuo resto" disse l’autista. Fu così che l’autista rimise il camion in moto e ripartì, lasciando il cane nella desolazione. Nei villaggi si racconta che questa è la ragione per la quale quando passa un camion il cane si mette a seguirlo, vuole riavere il suo resto, il montone non si sposta, e la capra invece scappa sempre più lontano che può per paura che l’autista reclami i suoi soldi...

Ciad - The three friends

Once upon a time in Ciad three friends made up their minds to go on a trip from one village to another.
They were a dog, a mutton and a goat.
The three of them had made up their minds to walk all the way but since it was a long way the dog suggested they should catch the "forest taxi" to travel more comfortably. The other two, who had got tired by now, accepted with pleasure. All of a sudden a taxi appeared on the road and the three waved to stop it. The driver asked them where they were going and asked them 250 CFA francs each.
The mutton paid without complaining, the dog, who had a 500 franc note, gave it to him expecting change. The goat in turn hinted to the driver that she had no money but would pay him on arrival.
The driver, who was a good chap, trusted the goat and accepted her proposal.
When at last the truck got to the village, the goat got off first and ran off as fast as she could. The mutton calmly walked away. The dog walked up to the driver and claimed his change but the driver denied it to him: "Your friend the goat didn't pay me and ran off, she didn't keep her promise, then I'm compelled to keep your change" said the driver.
Then he started the truck and went off, leaving the dog miserable.
In villages the story goes that that is the reason why when a truck passes by the dog chases it: he wants his change back. The mutton won't move whereas the goat always runs as fast as she can lest the driver should claim his money...
