India - Gamil

Gamìl era un ragazzino molto vivace, molto furbo, molto arrogante.
Per farsi bello e coraggioso con gli amici raccontava di storie che però mai gli erano accadute. Un bel giorno, anzi un brutto giorno, il villaggio si svegliò con una grande tigre che girava tra le capanne e nessuno aveva il coraggio di uscire,
"Gamìl"!!, chiamavano, ..."Gamìl" dissero in coro gli amici "lui certo saprà come liberarci da questa sciagura" - ma Gamìl che aveva sentito che lo stavan cercando per affrontare la tigre, per un sentiero che solo lui conosceva, se la dava a gambe tra la giungla.
Solo che ad un certo punto, non conoscendo bene la giungla, come invece aveva fatto crdere a tutti, cadde in un pozzo molto profondo ma praticamente asciutto.
Laggiù era assai buio e ciò lo spaventò... sentiva dei rumori ma non sapeva cosa si stesse muovendo.
Passarono tre giorni e tre notti, tempo nel quale Gamìl rivide un po’ le sue sbruffonate ed imparò davvero a stare solo.
Poi esplorando certi cunicoli trovò un piccolo fiume e dovette imparare a nuotare, a conoscere un po’ le leggi dell’acqua e i suoi segreti e dopo tre giorni sbucò all’aperto tra i pesci ma era diventato talmente simile a loro che un grande uccello pescatore, scambiandolo per un pesce lo ghermì e lo portò nel suo nido sulla cima di un monte come cibo per la sua nidiata.
Gamìl riuscì a fuggire, ma prima di tornare a valle si rese conto in tre giorni, di quanto diversi fossero i villaggi visti dall’alto e tutti i loro problemi e imparò anche le leggi della montagna.
Quando rientrò al suo villaggio, la tigre se ne era andata ed anche lui dopo aver baciato la madre e il padre si incamminò verso la grande città, ma subito fuori dal villaggio incontrò la tigre e per nove giorni e nove notti fecero il cammino assieme, poi la tigre sparì per sempre.
Anche Gamìl non tornò più al villaggio in cui aveva vissuto la sua infanzia seppure in qualche sogno gli tornasse ben vivo.

India - Gamil

Gamil was a very lively, sly and arrogant little boy.
To show off his bravery with his friends he told stories which however had never really happened to him. One fine day, one bad day in fact, when the villagers woke up they found a big tiger wondering among the huts and nobody dared come out.
"Gamil!" they called, "Gamil" said his friends all together "he'll surely know how to save us from the tiger". But Gamil, who had heard they were looking for him to face the tiger, was running away along a path in the jungle that nobody knew except himself.
However, since he did not know the jungle as well as he had pretended, he suddenly fell into a deep well which however was dry.
It was very dark down there and he was frightened... he heard noises but he did not know what was moving.
Three days and three nights went by during which Gamil thought over his exploits and really learnt to be on his own.
Then, while exploring certain tunnels, he found a little river and had to learn to swim,  also the laws of water a bit, and its secrets, and three days later he came out into the open air amongst fishes. But he had become so similar to them that a big fishing bird, taking him for a fish, caught him and took him onto his nest on top of a mountain, as food for her brood.
Gamil managed to escape but to climb down the mountain it took him three days, during which he realized how different the villages and all their problems were when seen from above and he also learnt the laws of the mountains.
When he got back to his village, the tiger had gone and he too, after kissing his mother and father, walked away towards the big city, but just outside the village he came across the tiger and for nine days and nine nights they walked together, then the tiger disappeared for good.
Gamil did not go back to the village where he had spent his childhood either, though in some dreams it appeared to him quite lively.
